I remember going natural and getting so frustrated that my edges wouldn’t lay down like they did when they were relaxed or when I applied heat. Finding an edge control that will actually hold your edges in place and not revert them can be a very hard task. Finding one that doesn’t flake when mixed with other products can also be another very hard task. The number one test is finding edge controls that lasts ALL DAY!
I get a lot of questions about what edge controls I use to achieve my “laid edges.” The answer is: I use a lot of them, but I have narrowed them down to 5. So here is a list of what I consider to be the top 5 edge controls for natural hair:

1.) Olive Oil Eco Styler Gel
I have been using this gel as an edge control for YEARS! This is definitely “my go to” when all else fails. The main way I use this products an edge control is by first spraying water on my hair and then applying the gel, brushing it back into a high puff.
If you’re looking for an edge control that dries hard and lasts all day, you should definitely use this!
2.) Lottabody Control Me Edge Gel
I really like this edge control because it gives my edges an amazing shine. When I apply it to my edges, it instantly tames them and it doesn’t leave any flakes! I love that this edge gel is designed to moisturize and at the same time strengthen your edges. It is made with coconut and shea oils, which are both known to hydrate hair!
If you’re looking for an edge control that leaves your edges moisturized and not hard, this is a must for you!
3.The Mane Choice Laid Back Effortlessly – Growth Stimulating Edge Control
This is another edge control I’ve been using for years. It is one of my go to’s when I’m trying to do fancy “swoops” with my edges. This edge control has a very strong hold, but still leaves your hair soft, which I love. It also helps promote hair growth and retention. This edge control is infused with biotin and vitamins C, D, and E.
If you are looking looking for an edge control with a very strong hold, I highly recommend this one!
4.) Mielle Organics Honey & Ginger Flexible Hold Edge Gel
I just bought this edge control a couple months ago and I’m in love! This product gives me the strong hold I love while keeping my hair soft. It is made with organic ingredients like honey, aloe, and ginger root! I also love that this edge control comes in a 4 oz. container. I need all I can get!
If you are looking for an edge control with a strong hold and you have kinkier edges, I recommend this one!
5.) Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Strengthening Edge Gel
I also just bought this product a couple months ago, but it has easily become one of my favorite edge controls. This is one of the few edge controls that will last all day long. I also love this edge control because it has a strong hold but leaves my hair very soft and moisturized. This edge control is also infused with biotin and promotes hair growth.
If you are looking for an edge control that will last all day, but keeps your hair soft, I highly recommend this one!
I hope that you find this post helpful as you look for edge controls that meet your needs. I will let you in on a little secret. *whispers* The key to having those edges laid is to apply the edge control with a comb or brush, smooth them down with your fingertip, then wrap a scarf around them for about 5-10 minutes while they dry.
So, now that I have shared with you my thoughts. Let me know your thoughts! Have you already tried any of these products? What are your thoughts on them?
